Mental Health Evaluations for Immigration

Are you in the middle of an immigration process that’s asking you to share painful, personal parts of your story? You may be facing removal, applying for asylum, or seeking safety after surviving abuse or violence. While the legal process focuses on evidence, what you’ve been through emotionally and mentally deserves to be heard and documented with care.
Maybe you’ve had to carry more than your share of becoming a provider after losing a parent, translating in high-stress situations, or managing the emotional weight of your family’s survival. These are not just life events. They shape your mental health and your ability to cope. A mental health evaluation can help communicate that truth in a way the legal system can understand, with dignity and accuracy.
I’m Ivon Herrera, a bilingual Solution-Focused and EMDR-trained therapist with extensive experience conducting immigration evaluations, including VAWA, U Visa, T Visa, asylum, hardship waivers, and cancellation of removal. With over 500 evaluations completed, I’m here to help you feel seen, validated, and supported throughout this process because your story matters, and how it’s told matters too.

Even with a thorough evaluation, approval is ultimately determined by USCIS and other factors in your case.
What is an evaluation for immigration?
An immigration evaluation is a mental health assessment that helps support your immigration case by documenting how your experiences have affected you emotionally and psychologically. During our time together, I’ll ask about your history, current struggles, and how the immigration situation is impacting your life. The goal is to create a detailed, professional report that discusses those emotional and psychological impacts.
